Media handling in the modern world
This workshop focuses on how assessment organisations engage with the media. The session will give insights into how media management takes place from the perspectives of managers of the process and those who are more directly involved in the production of messages. Delegates will be advised on the following issues:
Managing the design of media handling strategies
Constructing media handling strategies yourself
Understanding the creation of articles in terms of a media narrative
There will also be a significant element of interactive training in media handling.
The workshop will include presentations, case studies and interactive exercises. Media scenarios, questions and discussion will be led by an experienced journalist and an expert in media management. Delegates will be asked in advance to bring case studies and anecdotes of media interaction from their own countries in order to illustrate the international commonality of journalists and the enduring and generic nature of some narratives across cultural boundaries.
We will explore what to do and how to do it when the media spotlight turns on an assessment organisation. Discussion will also focus on: how an assessment organisation can gain positive coverage; how new systems can be made acceptable to the public; and how levels of public discourse on assessment and learning can be raised.
This session will help participants to convey their messages more effectively through television, radio, print and online. The workshop will build on the IAEA 2008 Media Awareness Seminar and will deliver an intensely interactive, dynamic, educative programme.
(This workshop is available to IAEA members only.)
